    Derry Quinn says:

I have a few questions, if that’s okay.

    1. Orders from the Greedbag store in Europe will definitely get the Tote bag if one were to pre-order there, right? It’s not a US-only thing?

    2. If I wait until the limited edition DVD is announced and pre-order it, do I get the Tote bag with that?

    3. Will there be a blu-ray version, and if so, will it go on sale for pre-order before the DVD ships and if so, does the bag come with a pre-order of that?

I know I seem really cheap, but that bag looks amazing, and I want to buy the Limited edition, or blu-ray if there is one, but in doing so I don’t want to miss out on getting such a cool bag. :-)

    gary says:

    Okay:

    1. Yes, UK/EU pre-orders get the tote bag.

    2. Yes, we’ll be including the tote with the special edition.

    3. No blu-ray version… too many hurdles/expenses to produce them, and not enough demand. We will be doing HD downloads though, through iTunes and others.

    Cheers!

    Gary,

How many people would you need to make Blu-ray worth publishing? I’m a sucker for 1080P :)

    Thanks!

Yippee!! Looking forward to hearing more about the limited edition version.

One inquiry: Will the digital downloads be including the bonus interview footage as well? Or will that be reserved for the hardcopies only?

    Dustin says:

Very sad to see there’s no Blu-Ray release. Would definitely be an instant buy for me.

    Dan says:

I was about to pre-order when I saw the DVD was NTSC.
    No PAL version?
Well done with the roadshow, I’ll be keeping my eyes peeled for the Australia leg of your trip.

    Blu-Ray edition ?????
    Please :)

    Derry Quinn says:

Thanks for the response Gary, will be ordering on August 10 :)

  11. July 30th, 2009 at 9:58 am

    gary says:

@dustin, @vincent – Sorry, not going to happen. It’s too expensive for small film producers to do a commercial blu-ray release. The blu-ray consortium charges a ton of fees for the blu-ray manufacturing rights. And we learned from the Helvetica blu-ray that there just isn’t a big enough demand for independent documentaries on blu-ray.

@dan – most DVD players in europe and australia are dual format PAL/NTSC now. your player should be able to play this dvd, we’ve sold thousands of other NTSC dvds down under with no issues.

    cheers!

  12. July 30th, 2009 at 10:01 am

    gary says:

@ all you blu-rayers, let me look into this a little more. we might be able to do a limited run of burned blu-rays with the HD version of the film (probably just the movie, no frills). i’ll get back to you…

    Hadi says:

I just made a big fuss now, sitting in the office and started a company wide panic! Objectified is OUT! The single most important tool I’ll be using to start building awareness about product design in Jordan…
Thank You for all your awesome work :)

    Question for you Gary:

I live in Jordan, part of the rest of the world!
Will the tote bag shipped with my order?

  14. July 30th, 2009 at 11:10 am

    gary says:

thanks hadi, and yes the tote bags are included with ALL pre-orders, anywhere in the world!

Count me in for blu-ray release also. This film is too important to view in SD version. It must be appreciated in HD…

  17. July 30th, 2009 at 12:25 pm

    gary says:

@ Mark – full details on the special edition won’t be released until august 10. but helvetica special editions were in the $75 to $125 range.

Will the tote be included on the educational/institutional pre-order as well? It looks so cool….

    Bill says:

    I want Blu-Ray, too!

I bought the limited edition version of Helvetica, and love it a lot, but was disappointed when the Blu-Ray came out not too long afterward.

This time I want to make SURE there’s no Blu-Ray before pulling the trigger on the SD version. :(

  22. July 30th, 2009 at 10:24 pm

    Jaime says:

Yeah same question as Sean, I’ve been waiting for Objectified to be released so I can get Helvetica too and spend on one shipment.. any chance on a deal if we buy both?

    Thanks!

    Brandon says:

Blu-Ray please! I only buy things I want to have around for a long time and while this is definitely one of those items, I would never buy it on DVD.

Please send me a note if a bluray edition ever comes out.

  32. August 5th, 2009 at 3:54 am

    Chance Johnson says:

Yes! Any kind of Blu-ray copy would be MOST welcomed! My 2008 new years resolution was to never buy another DVD. “Frills” would be cool Gary, but I could live without them for a sharpie signed Blu-Ray burn copy of the film :)

Please add me on any kind of shortlist you may have if this is done and I’ll gladly buy a copy!

    FCP can now burn BR.)

A limited, burned Blu-Ray version would be great!
HD-Downloads from iTunes use too high compression. An HD-Film on iTunes looks like a better DVD.
Please make a burned Blu-Ray version possible! That would be great!

  39. August 11th, 2009 at 2:21 pm

    gary says:

We’ll be making the announcement later this week. We’re trying to make a blu-ray disc an option, like there will hopefully be two different flavors of the special edition. Stay tuned…

    Ahmet Burak Veyisoglu says:

    Hi Gary!

How do you do? We met in the Future of Global Product Design Forum in Barcelona.

I would like to ask you a couple of questions…

    1. Should I choose “rest of the world” to order objectified, helvetica etc. to Turkiye?

    2. Do you know how long it takes to ship the products to Turkiye?

    Hope to see you again…

  43. August 18th, 2009 at 4:08 am

    Yuki says:

    i agree with Helvetica+Objectified on Blue-Ray :)

  44. August 18th, 2009 at 8:36 am

    gary says:

@Ahmet -Hi! Either way is fine, you can order from the UK site: http://plexi.greedbag.com/buy/objectified/

Or from the US site. Which ever one is cheaper shipping to Turkey? No idea on the ship times but I’m guessing the UK site would be quicker. Cheers!

    Hi Gary,

Caught one of the screenings in Vancouver! I was not the guy who asked about which chair you would be though… ;)

I’m wondering if you can tell us what the prices will be on the iTunes store(s)?

Trying to decide on DVD preorder vs waiting for the digital download

    Thank you

  46. August 25th, 2009 at 4:51 pm

    Marsha says:

Hi Gary: I saw Objectified in NYC the day you spoke after the screening and enjoyed it all very much (although I fear that sounds a little bland and doesn’t begin to convey my enthusiasm for your work). I’ve also enjoyed your tweets and just orderd the Objectified DVD. One comment: if the tote bags were available separately, I’d buy a bunch of them for birthday gifts, Christmas gifts, whatever gifts, just for the fun of spreading them around. Just a thought… and keep up the great work! (Guess I should be thinking about getting a blu-ray player …)

  47. August 25th, 2009 at 5:16 pm

    gary says:

@marsha – Thanks! And we wanted the bags to be exclusive, just for the folks who pre-order the DVD. So after September 29, the bags are done (unless we run out of the them before that).

@westcoastmatt – We try to keep the iTunes prices low, considering it’s just the film with no extras, etc. So the iTunes pricing for the US will be $9.99 (as opposed to $14.99, which is the price for most new releases) for the standard def, and $12.99 for the HD download.

  48. August 29th, 2009 at 4:34 pm

    Jack S. Yi says:

Can you talk about specifics of the special features (ie. additional interview footage) in the DVD release?

  49. August 31st, 2009 at 1:24 pm

    gary says:

Will have a list added to the site soon, but it’s extra interview footage from pretty much everyone in the film.

    Iulian says:

    Hi Gary,

I would most certainly buy the BluRay version of Objectified, so one more vote from me.

I’ve noticed the DVD is out of stock for UK & Europe. Congratulations on that :) Should we, the Europeans, wait for the stock to replenish, or is the US store our last chance?

  51. September 8th, 2009 at 8:21 pm

    gary says:

Lulian, the Blu-ray is being released, pre-order it now: http://plexi.greedbag.com/

The standard DVD pre-order for UK and Europe will be back up shortly, check back tomorrow. Thanks!

Looking forward to this…El Ten Eleven will for me be always associated with Helvetica…I wonder who it will be with Objectified?

  53. September 10th, 2009 at 1:06 pm

    gary says:

Heh heh… it’ll still be El Ten Eleven. They’ve got four songs in the film, and guitarist Kristian Dunn did a bunch of original score pieces for Objectified as well.

  54. September 14th, 2009 at 2:16 am

    Chance Johnson says:

    WooHoo!

Did my Bluray pre-order just now! Thanks Gary! Can’t wait to see it! lol still would have been nice to have a “bootleg” looking, Gary Hustwit signed copy on a burnt BD-R tho. :D
